Axel Herberg is a Senior Managing Director in the Private Equity Group based in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Before joining The Blackstone Group in 2010, Dr. Herberg worked at Gerresheimer AG for 18 years. He spent the last ten years as Chief Executive Officer, during which time Gerresheimer was the subject of two successful LBO's (the second of which was led by Blackstone) and a public offering.

Prior to that, Dr. Herberg worked at McKinsey & Company as a Consultant and at Krupp Industrietechnik as Director of Strategic Planning.
 
Dr. Herberg received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Aachen and a degree in Economics and a Ph.D. from the University of Hamburg.  Dr. Herberg serves as a member of the Supervisory Board of Leica Camera AG, Director and Chairman of the Board of Mivisa, Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Jack Wolfskin, and is on the Board of Trustees of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein.
