New York –  Don Anderson, Chief Sustainability Officer for Blackstone’s private equity business, has been elected to the Board of the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). GBCI was established in 2008 to administer certifications and professional designations under the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® Green Building Rating Systems™.

At Blackstone, Mr. Anderson is responsible for developing sustainability initiatives for the firm’s portfolio companies. Before joining Blackstone in 2011, he consulted for both USGBC and EPA’s Energy Star teams on benchmarking and portfolio-level performance improvement.  He also supported the development of similar programs in China and India.

“I am honored to be asked to support the important work of the Green Building Certification Institute, which has helped establish rigor and precision in high-performance building design and operation,” said Don Anderson. “Blackstone has demonstrated the impact that sustainability efforts can have across our portfolio, and I look forward to sharing our experience with GBCI.”

“Don’s focus on the fast, verifiable performance improvement required by private equity, combined with his international experience in transforming commercial building performance, make him a great fit to support GBCI’s mission to advance excellence in green building performance and practice globally,” said Rick Fedrizzi, CEO of GBCI and President, CEO and Founding Chair of the U.S. Green Building Council.
