Summit convenes experts from the White House, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, key government agencies and outside groups

New York, NY – Blackstone (NYSE: BX) and The Carlyle Group (NASDAQ: CG) will jointly host the third annual Veterans Initiative Summit on November 28-29 in Washington, D.C.

The Summit will bring experts from the White House, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Departments of Labor, Defense, Small Business Administration and Veterans Affairs and various outside groups together with executives from the two firms and their portfolio companies for discussions about how to best hire and retain U.S. veterans and their spouses.

The private equity industry collectively represents hundreds of companies and millions of employees across the country, providing a platform for significant impact on U.S. veteran hiring.

“We are proud of this continued partnership, and believe it can be a model for other industries as we collectively strive to improve the veteran employment picture,” said Stephen A. Schwarzman, Blackstone’s Chairman, CEO, and Co-Founder. “These men and women embody the skills and personal attributes we look for in employees. After reaching our initial goal of hiring 50,000 veterans earlier this year, Blackstone was excited to double down with a new commitment to hire 50,000 additional veterans, caregivers, and spouses across our portfolio in the next five years.”

Daniel A. D’Aniello, Co-Founder and Chairman of The Carlyle Group and a U.S. Navy veteran, said, “We are honored to be part of the third annual Veterans Initiative Summit. We are grateful to our veterans for their service and sacrifice. Carlyle and our portfolio companies are committed to supporting and fostering our veterans’ career development and retention. This summit provides a marvelous opportunity to develop effective solutions to help America’s veterans and strengthen our companies.”

Additional participants in the summit include The George W. Bush Presidential Center, Got Your Six, CNAS, USO, SVA, Armed Services YMCA, Veterati, NPower, The Mission Continues, Team Rubicon and Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

This year’s Summit will feature discussions on building veteran employee support resources, career development programs, apprenticeship programs and veteran spouse hiring efforts.

This collaboration was launched in partnership with President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden as part of the “Joining Forces” initiative to encourage private sector hiring of veterans. Since the inaugural Veterans Initiative Summit in 2015, Blackstone, Carlyle and others in the industry have coordinated on efforts to encourage their portfolio companies to hire, retain, and promote the integration of veterans into the broader community and economy. Throughout the year, the firms and attendee organizations continue to work together to share best practices, strengthening the collective effort.
